Method and Application of Thread Milling

  • Thread milling is a thread machining process with the numerical control machine tool, and popular in Europe and America at first. With the development of CNC machine tools in China, it has gradually been accepted and loved by Chinese customers. With the help of CNC and G03 screw milling center, it can finish thread milling.

The thread milling process has its own natural advantages. At present, the thread milling cutter is made of cemented carbide, and the processing line speed can reach 80 ~ 200m / min, while the processing line speed of a high-speed wire cone is only 10 ~ 30m / min. therefore, the thread milling cutter is suitable for high-speed cutting, and the surface finish of the thread is greatly improved. Thread machining of high hardness materials and high-temperature alloy materials, such as titanium alloy and nickel base alloy, has always been a relatively difficult problem. The main reason is that when a high-speed steel wire cone is used to process the thread of the above materials, the tool life is relatively short, and the cemented carbide thread milling cutter is an ideal solution. The machinable hardness is hrc58 ~ 62. For the thread processing of superalloy materials, the thread milling cutter also shows excellent processing performance and long life beyond expectation. For threaded holes with the same pitch and different diameters, it needs more than one tool to process with taps. However, if a thread milling cutter is used, only one tool can be used. When the screw tap is worn and the thread size is less than the tolerance, it can not be used and can only be scrapped; when the thread milling cutter is worn and the thread hole size is less than the tolerance, the necessary cutter radius compensation adjustment can be carried out through the CNC system, and then the qualified thread can be processed. Similarly, in order to obtain high-precision threaded holes, it is much easier to adjust the tool radius with a thread milling cutter than to produce high-precision taps. For small diameter thread processing, especially for high hardness materials and high-temperature materials, the tap sometimes breaks, blocks the thread hole, and even makes parts scrapped; using thread milling cutter, because the diameter of the tool is smaller than that of the processed hole, even if it is broken, it will not block the threaded hole, which is very easy to take out, and will not lead to the scrapping of parts; when the thread milling is used, compared with the tap, the tool will not be scrapped The cutting force is greatly reduced, which is particularly important for large diameter thread processing. It solves the problem that the machine tool load is too large to drive the tap to process normally.

The machine clamping blade type thread milling cutter has been invented ten years ago, and people also realize that the processing cost can be greatly reduced by using the thread milling cutter compared with the tap when machining the threaded hole above M20 in the machining center. But in recent years, the design and production technology of integral cemented carbide thread milling cutter has gradually matured, and a series of products with complete size range have been developed. In large power generation, metallurgical equipment processing industry, pump, valve processing industry, thread milling cutter solves the processing problem of large diameter thread and becomes an ideal cutting tool with high efficiency and low cost.
